Course Content

The OPITO standard Basic H2S Training covers the emergency response competency requirements and provides details of training required for personnel working in potential H2S environments. This training covers the characteristics of hydrogen sulphide gas and the potential physiological effects of exposure as well as the use of H2S detection equipment and escape breathing apparatus

Target Audience:

1. Target Audience: The H2S training programme is for personnel that are or could be, working in an environment that could become contaminated by H2S gas.
2. Delegate pre-requisites: There are no pre-requisites.
3. Duration: 4-6 hours
4. Validity: 2 years
5. Certification: Basic H2S Training Course Certificate issued by Solas Marine Services.
6. Approved Standard: OPITO
7. Health Prerequisites: All delegates will be asked to complete a standard medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.

Authorized Gas Tester

The training ensures that that personnel preparing for a gas tester role are equipped with the knowledge to conduct gas tests for oxygen levels, flammable and toxic gases safely.

The training ensures that that personnel preparing for a gas tester role are equipped with the knowledge to conduct gas tests for oxygen levels, flammable and toxic gases safely.

Course Content

The Authorised Gas Tester role is critical in testing for and ensuring safe working atmospheres, in particular: permit controlled confined spaces, and prior to and during hot work.
The tasks Authorised Gas Testers are required to undertake may vary depending on the workplace operation at the time. It provides delegates with an understanding of:
a) What is required for those involved with performing a test for oxygen, flammable and toxic gases up to and including working in confined spaces.
b) What is required for those involved with testing for flammable gas in preparation for hot work.
c) What is required for those who provide safety watch duties by the ongoing monitoring of a hot work site.

Target Audience:

1. Target Audience: This programme is designed to meet the initial training and knowledge assessment requirements for personnel preparing to work as Authorised Gas Testers (persons undertaking Standby/Safety Watch duties at the entrance to a confined space)
2. Delegate pre-requisites: There are no pre-requisites.
3. Duration: 16 hours
4. Validity: 3 years
5. Certification: Authorised Gas Tester Course Certificate issued by Solas Marine Services.
6. Approved Standard: OPITO
7. Health Prerequisites: All delegates will be asked to complete a standard medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.

International Minimum Industry Safety Training

This is an introductory training programme that would introduce the key safety elements required by all employees in the Oil & Gas Industry.

Course Content

The offshore working environment is home to many hazards, which means that it is vital for everyone who goes offshore to have the same baseline level of safety knowledge. This course has been created with OPITO to set a global safety standard by applying a consistent level of safety awareness across nine safety critical areas and is applicable .

The knowledge gained in this course will help you to stay safe in your day-to-day activities offshore. It will also outline some of the systems and procedures in place to manage everyday operations offshore.

Target Audience:

1. Target Audience: This introductory safety training programme is designed to introduce the fundamental safety elements of the oil and gas industry to new employees.
2. Delegate pre-requisites: There are no pre-requisites.
3. Duration: 13.5 hours over two days or in-house programme as per OPITO criteria.
4. Validity: 4 years
5. Certification: IMIST Certificate issued by Solas Marine Services on completion of all 9 modules.
6. Approved Standard: OPITO
7. Health Prerequisites: All delegates will be asked to complete a standard medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
