“Embarkation and Pilot ladders are wooden and made of real ropes. The standard wooden steps are machined into shape and inserted at regular intervals onto two pairs of manila ropes.
Spreader wooden bars are longer versions of the standard steps. They help in stopping the ladder from twisting in prevailing weather conditions. The lowest of the four steps are more physically stronger and harder to withstand the interaction between mother vessel and the pilot boats.
Pilot boat deck when moving alongside the vessel are usually below the deck of most commercial vessel, especially for the purpose of crew transfer. This is only possible with the help of rope ladders such as pilot ladders. The ladders are usually stowed in a rolled up position onboard the vessel.
Rope ladders come with MED Ship’s wheel mark and declaration of conformity.”
